VIDEO: Art Journal – Iridescent Acrylic Paint Leaves

Iridescent leaves painted with acrylic paint in a junk journal by Kim Dellow

More acrylic paint leaves for you today and a video of my latest Junk Journal experiments. For this video I’ve been playing around with painting acrylic paint leaves using those wonderful iridescent Pebeo paints that I am totally hooked on at the moment. But my acrylic paint leaves are different today as I’ve painted them as shapes rather than using the negative space technique that I used in my last video. I don’t know what I am in such a leafy mood, perhaps it was all of our chat about art motifs recently?!

If you want to see the leaves in their full shiny iridescent glory then scroll on down to the close up photograph at the bottom of the page!

VIDEO: Art Journal - Acrylic paint and Gouache Paint

It’s art journal time! I thought I would change pace today, well it is Sunday after all, and share an art journal page process video. This page started with some paint left over from another project that I wanted to use up, so I had no real plans for it. I’ve built it up with gouache and acrylic paint and also some monoprinting with one of the petite gel press shapes.

To see more I’ve a close up photograph under the supplies list!

VIDEO: How To Make Easy Abstract Watercolor Flowers – A Creative Exercise

How To Make Easy Abstract Watercolor Flowers - A Creative Exercise

I promised you something different today didn’t I? So I thought I would share a creative exercise that is great for anyone who wants to get started with watercolor paints, or for if you have been dabbling but aren’t sure what to do next. So this exercise uses three ways to make easy abstract watercolor flowers and helps you to get use to how watercolor paints work and how to manipulate them to get the look and effects you want. And I’m hoping that you find it a no-fear exercise that helps you to get a handle on watercolors and inspires you to have some fun experimenting with them, so let me know if it does!

I’ve put all the colors that I have used in the supplies section below. I’m using watercolors in pans from Prima Marketing but this exercise will work on other watercolors too, like liquid watercolors or tube paints, even some of your pens and inks too! If you want to see some close-up pictures of the textures you can find them below!

VIDEO: What Are Your Favorite Art Motifs?

A stylised flower pattern in gouache paint and pen

What are your favorite art motifs? What shapes or patterns keep cropping up again and again for you? Let me know I would love to hear! You guys know that I do tend to use a lot of circles and hearts in my work and I’ve mentioned them before on my blog, as my favorite, go-to motifs. You have probably seen various retro-style shapes from me too and if you follow my magazine work you might have spotted a few stars in my work. I mean they are just so sparkly aren’t they?!

So I thought we could revisit the subject today and I’m sharing some thoughts on art motifs whilst I work on one of my favorites, a retro, stylised flower. I’m also sharing some tips on how to spot your motifs and how to break out of your art motif ruts too!

Now, this is the second project in my four project series and if you missed them I shared project one in the video about ‘How To Practice Your Art’ and you will find projects number three and four in the ‘Where Do You Get Your Ideas From’  so don’t forget to catch up with both of them too!

VIDEO: Where Do You Get Your Ideas? Tips For Artists and Crafters

Two Art journal pages with a video and chat about how to get ideas.

Where do you get your ideas? How do you keep inspired and do you have any tricks for when you aren’t feeling inspired? I’m sharing some of my go-to habits and ways that I generate ideas and keep inspired but I also want to hear yours too, so do share, either here or over on my YouTube channel.

I’m also practising my brush work again but this time with two art journal pages and you can see my whole process. These are projects number three and four in a series of four. If you missed the first one in the series then you can see it in the video I posted on Sunday where I shared some of my art practice tips. But don’t worry, you haven’t missed project two! That one will be posted this Sunday coming ( 25th February 2018).

Pencil Coloring Tutorial, showing the coloring of a cute girl stamp

I’m doing some pencil coloring in my video today. You might recognise the image as I used her for an art journal page video a couple of weeks ago but I never showed you how I colored her. So I thought I would rectify that and go through my pencil coloring process for you. I’ve used both Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils for this image, but let me know what pencils you are using for your coloring at the moment.

If you want the full list of the colors I have used then scroll down and you will also see a close-up of her face too!

I’ve got lots of techniques and ideas for you so I hope that you find them useful! These techniques will work on whatever you use for your monoprinting so have fun trying them out and there is a close-up of some of the hearts below the video, in case you wanted to see some of the details.

VIDEO: Simple Mask And Heat Embossing Technique – Art Journal Page

Simple Mask And Heat Embossing Technique art journal page

I’ve got a fun heat embossing technique for you today. It is so simple that you will wonder why you don’t use it with your heat embossing all of the time! It is a really great way to stretch your stash and make more out of your stamps, particularly your background stamps, texture stamps or pattern stamps. With this really simple technique you can make something unique to you but with still using something that everyone can buy!

For my demo of this technique I have made an art journal page but this simple mask and heat embossing technique can be used in your card making, painting and mixed media projects too. So I hope you have lots of fun with it and don’t forget that the products I have used are listed below the video and there is also a close-up photo of the finished page below too!
