VIDEO: How To Start A Page From The Focal Image

A colorful art journal page with a central hare image made by Kim Dellow

Today I thought we could have a play with the whole art journal or mixed media project making process and turn it on it’s head! Reverse it! Make the page backwards! Ok, so what I really mean is let’s just start with the focal image and see how we can make the art from there. What steps will we need to do and how can we build the piece with an image in mind but not the final project in mind?

Intrigued? Then watch the video below, try it yourself and share the results with me over on social media. I’m @kimdellow on Instagram!

Oh and by the way, the Hare stamp is a DIY craft foam stamp and you can make one yourself. I have a template for you to download and an in-depth ‘how-to make’ video when you join either the Art Explorers or Process Addicts tier on Patreon.

(Not sure what Patreon is then watch this short video explainer!)

If you enjoyed that video then there are two free art classes that you will want to take today! First is my paper doodles project that is a great way to free yourself up with your art.

And then I have a fun step by step mixed media project that takes you through all the layers from start to finish to build an art journal page or a mixed media project.

Have fun making art today!
