VIDEO: Easy Acrylic Paint Background Mixed Media Technique

I’m keeping things simple today with a really easy, but totally effective, acrylic paint background. And for a bit of contrast I have also played with one of my geometric designs as I wanted to see how it would look on this background. So if you haven’t yet tried using your acrylic paints like a watercolor paint then you will enjoy playing with this easy acrylic paint background as it will ease you in to trying this technique in a no fear kind of way! It’s only a background after all!

And you can see that you can use it for pretty much any mixed media fun that you might want to add over the top as it just stays put as an acrylic paint background should! So try it in your next art journal, painting, mixed media or even card making project! And I have a close-up picture at the end of this post plus some links to other videos you might enjoy too!

VIDEO: How To Practice Art – 5 Tips For Artists And Crafters

Painted pattern. Video with tips on how to practice art

Are there art or craft skills that you want to improve this year? Or techniques you want to learn? Well, I am guessing that the answer is ‘yes’! Because we all have don’t we? I know I do! I have a long old list of things I want to do better in my art. So today I am sharing 5 tips on how to practice art to improve. These are 5 things that I am currently doing to help me to practice art and hopefully to improve and fill the skill and technique gaps I have.  Such as my brushwork. I’ve mentioned before that I want to improve my brushwork, so today I am also practising my brushwork and I have a time lapse video showing you how I put together a pattern in gouache paint.

I hope you find these tips useful and let me know what it is that you want to improve at the moment in your art or craft!

VIDEO: How to Use Watercolor paint and Indian Ink on Yupo

Techniques for using watercolor on Yupo, video by Kim Dellow

If you watched my video last week then you would have seen that I was playing around with Yupo as one of the surfaces I was testing Distress Oxides on. It was such fun to be using the synthetic paper again, I hadn’t used it for such a long time before last week, that I wanted to play with it some more. So here is another video with it and this time I am using it with watercolor paints and Indian ink and sharing the results and some tips on using it with these materials too.

I really love the textures you can get with Yupo and the way it makes the paint look bright and vivid. Have you been using ti? What materials have you tried with it and what do you enjoy doing with it? Or perhaps you haven’t tried it yet? After seeing these videos do you think that you will?

I do have some other project ideas for using Yupo that I made for when I was working for Blitsy, like a resist technique to use on Yupo with watercolor and alcohol inks or the step by step for making Galaxy Art on Yupo with acrylic paint. So give them all a go and let me know how you get on, you will find my social media links below so do link me in when you share your results on social media as I would love to see them!

Scroll down for a close up picture of the texture in this project.

VIDEO: Acrylic Paint Glazing And Tinted Gels and Paint Art Journal Page

Acrylic glazing art journal page by Kim Dellow. There is a video tutorial too!

I’ve been playing with acrylic glazing liquid this week and for my video tutorial I’ve used glazing in a way you might not be used to seeing it being used. Usually glazing is used in the latter stages of a painting project to shift the colour of a piece or unify and harmonise it. In my art journal page I’ve used it early on in the process to bring my tinted gel and paint stencil element together with the some old book page texture. I’ve also used it as a base to add more colour to. You can see all about it in the video and see how this page started too.

It kind of looks Autumnal doesn’t it? But it was never my intention to make an Autumnal art journal page but the start of the new season here in the UK must have had a bigger influence on me than I had thought! Do you find the seasons influencing your art when you least expect it? What seasonal projects have you been doing this week?

If you are wondering, the stencil is actually one I made myself and those of you that have popped into my blog or YouTube channel before would have seen it a few times. But if you haven’t then you can find out how I made it in my Moroccan tile blog post.
