What do you do when doodles go wrong? I had one of those recently. I doodled away thinking all would be fine, I mean I was doodling with one of the best paint pen colors in the world! What could go wrong? Well a dodgy doodle, that is what could go wrong! Oh and you can see more of that paint pen in my recent paint pen video btw. You know the one where I doodle even more? At least in that video the doodles didn’t go wrong! But this week? Yuck!
But it is ok, I think I saved it! Decide for yourself by watching the video and checking out the picture below. It’s all a bit random this week but I hope you enjoy it anyway. All the supplies and the colors I have used are below as well.

My mixed media art journal page share today is a little random! Well even more random then you would normally expect from me, or at least I think so! It has a random face and some pattern and mark making designs. I’ve used what was already on this junk journal page and added some images and more color to finish a mixed media art journal page that was started so long ago that I do not remember when I put the first colour down! It is kind of fun adding random elements to finish a page like this and highlight some of what was already there whilst adding new random elements!
So the close-up photograph is below as always, under the list of the products that I used to finish this mixed media art journal page.
VIDEO: Mixed media Art Journal Page Process – Random Face and Pattern
I was flicking through my junk journal looking for a page to work on when a little left-over page caught my eye. So today I have the making of a shaped page to share with you from start to finish. It is always fun to change things up a but isn’t it? The picture above shows the front part of the project with the shaped page closed, scroll on down for all the products I used and to see the inside of the project too. You will also get a better look at the shaped page itself in the photo below.
My working title for this project is ‘windows and doors’ as it has been inspired by architecture but I am wondering if I should actual call it ‘Dolls House’.
VIDEO: Mixed Media Art Journal – Make A Shaped Page
This is a page of gouache and acrylic paint layers and it has been sat in my junk journal for months! Well, actually, it has been sat in my junk journal half finished for months, if I want to be accurate about it! This gouache and acrylic paint layers page started life as just a gouache paint experiment on gesso until I spotted it again this week and decided to finish it with some acrylic paint. But you can watch the whole gouache and acrylic paint layer process and listen to it’s painty story in my video today!
If you follow me over on instagram or have watched my DIY Stamp Carving Process video then you might recognise this design, if not then hop on over and check either of them out and say ‘hi’ whilst you are there!
As usual I have a list of the products I used for this gouache and acrylic paint page below the video and a close-up picture of the design is there too!

I hope you enjoyed watching this gouache and acrylic paint junk journal page develop. To see the how I finished the page opposite this one, watch my Easy Stencilling video.

Have a super-fun, maybe bitty (?!) creative few days until I next catch up with you!
Hey lovely Facers, I hope that you have had a good week and have had time to do some portrait practice. Are you ready for this week’s share?
First up the admin…
Quick Draw Faces – July 2016 (set a timer to say 10-15 min – or less if you dare! – and draw a face or several faces in that time. Suggested by Gibby Frogett).
Change Hands – September 2016 (try using your non-dominant hand to draw/ paint / make your face this month. Suggested by Hazel Agnew).
Remember all are optional prompts, you don’t have to use them, they are there if you fancy playing, if not just link up your usual work as normal.
Show Your Face is a community link up for portrait work in any style or medium.
the aims are to share, learn, practise, inspire, and be inspired.
to make sure that the face artwork is yours, if you use any stamps or templates to build the face they should be designed by you.
the link is open from 10 am (BST) every Friday and stays open for a week, so link away.
finished pieces, works in progress or retro posts (i.e. older works, not from this week) are all welcome.
to link back to the link blog post here for that week.
Spread the word on your blog/social media outlets and use the #ShowYourFaceFriday hashtag in social media.
There is a prompt every other month. Using the prompts is totally optional and just there if you fancy playing along. You can still post your face work even if you haven’t used the prompt.
Looking For The Blog Button?
If you want to wear the blog button with pride then hop on over to Show Your Face 31st July 2015 to grab it and there are instructions on how to put it on your blog there too.
My Share This Week…
Another share from my junk journal and some sketches or doodles of faces in a crowd with a fine line Sharpie pen.
Over To You…
Link your faces artwork and spread the word on your blog and/or social media, hashtag #ShowYourFaceFriday. Please do let anyone you think would be interested in sharing their portraits know about our community here.
I’ve been doing a lot of drawing in my art journal recently. I have been using different kinds of Sharpie pens either on fresh pages or on pages that already had a few layers of paint left over from previous projects.
I’ve been sharing some of my surface design patterns on my Instagram feed and I will be blogging them at some point. But in the meantime here are a couple of pages that I haven’t posted to instagram as yet, they will be going up today or tomorrow!
They are both pages from my Junk Journals. For both of these pages I’ve used white water-based Sharpie paint pens over acrylic paint backgrounds. The two pages sit opposite each other in my journal but I decided not to do them as a double page spread even though they had the coordinating paint background with the lovely green punchinella texture.
It is more a two page series with a red theme I think and the white sketched motifs links the pages together.
Have you been keep your flyers for turning into Junk Journals? If you aren’t sure what I mean then you can learn more about my junk journals on my YouTube Channel or in my Reusing Flyers blog post from a couple of weeks ago.
