VIDEO: Saving Messy Art PLUS DIY Sticky Masks

Adding pen work to a gel print by Kim Dellow

I love messy art! I think it is totally part of the process and has so many important uses for us as artists. But I also know that messy art can be frustrating sometimes and we might end up feeling that we have gone too far and need to ditch the art or recycle it.

If you have gone through this too then I have a piece and some ideas that will help you today. But also today I am sharing a DIY adhesive mask trick, so great if you don’t have the masking film I have been using in the last two videos. And I have a trick for bringing two completely different pieces together as if they were always meant to be together.

Scroll on down for the supplies and a picture of the inside of the card!

VIDEO: More Gel Printing Ideas – Reuse Masking Film!

Yellow and green gel print with painted and pencil circles around a masked area.

Gel printing cards again this week and sticking with that double-sided card idea, if you missed it check last week’s post for the first card in this series. This week I found a couple of faces in the gel print design! So had to try and bring them out! But faces aren’t the only thing I thought I would try out this week. I thought I would see if I could stretch my stash and reuse an old piece of masking film, one I have used before. Will it still work?

Find out in the video and you can find a picture of the inside and the outside of this week’s double-sided card below.

VIDEO: How To Make Gel Printed Greeting Cards With A Difference – Card 1

A greeting card made with gel printing by Kim Dellow

I decided to get my gel plate out to make some gel printed greeting cards. But these are gel printed greeting cards with a difference! So if you are looking for something unique that adds that little extra special experience for the recipient of the card then have a go at some double sided printing! I know, right?! There is all that lovely space on a card we should use it!

Well, I show you how this week and I have three cards in total to share with you, but as the footage added up to 2 hours worth I decided to split the video into three! So this is part one today and then the next two gel printed greeting card inspiration will follow over the next couple of weeks, so don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel if you aren’t already and click the notification bell so you don’t miss when they go live. Each card turned out quite different so you are going to want to see them all!

VIDEO: How To Make A Layered Circle Leaf Print With A Gel Plate

A layered circle gel print technique by Kim Dellow

Let’s gel plate print! I have a gel plate printing technique in my video to share with you today that will not only show you how to make a layered gel print but also how to make it any shape you want no matter what shape your gel is. I’m revisiting leaf printing for today’s video as it is a great way to get some really interesting and unusual textures. But you can try making layers and shapes using these techniques with all sorts of different printing textures so have fun with it!

The paint I am using for my print is iridescent and looks different depending on the angle you view it at so look at the photo above and then scroll down to the bottom of this post to see the colors you get when you see it from the side!

VIDEO: How to Gel Print With Watersoluble Crayons

Using watercolor paints on gel prints can be a little difficult as the paint beads up if you don’t treat it first but have you tried using watersoluble crayons on your gel plate yet? You can get some gorgeous watercolor effects really easily and without pre-treating your gel plate just by using watersoluble crayons and I’m sharing some techniques for you to try out yourself the next time you have your gel plate out and fancy doing some monoprinting.

Have a play with the amounts of water you use to see what different effects you can get. It is quite striking as you can get really strong saturated color when you use an artist crayon like the Neocolor II from Caran d’Ache, which is what I am using here. You can also get some gorgeous subtle pastel watercolor looks too. And as a bonus I have another technique to share to help you get a unique distressed look from using your watersoluble crayons on your gel plate. You can catch a close-up of some of the prints down at the bottom of this post, so just scroll down after watching the video!
