VIDEO: Art Journal Process – Easy Flowers And My Thought Processes Behind This Page

You know when you have half an idea in your head but you aren’t really sure where it will take you? Well this easy flowers art journal page is definitely one of those! I thought I would take you through my full thought process for how this easy flowers painting art journal page came into being and I really hope that hearing about some of the decisions I made and the thoughts in my head as those easy flowers developed will help you appreciate your own art process and some of the decisions that you make when arting.

You can even walk through this make and see what decisions you might have taken, if you would have done the same or something completely different. I mean that is the fun of this isn’t it? We all look at art through our own eyes and bring to it our unique understanding and knowledge.

As always you will find a close-up picture of the finished page below the video, as well as the product list and a bonus product! I didn’t use it in the video but I did talk about drawing on acetate and if you need a pen for that then you will find it listed below!

VIDEO: How to Gel Print With Watersoluble Crayons

Using watercolor paints on gel prints can be a little difficult as the paint beads up if you don’t treat it first but have you tried using watersoluble crayons on your gel plate yet? You can get some gorgeous watercolor effects really easily and without pre-treating your gel plate just by using watersoluble crayons and I’m sharing some techniques for you to try out yourself the next time you have your gel plate out and fancy doing some monoprinting.

Have a play with the amounts of water you use to see what different effects you can get. It is quite striking as you can get really strong saturated color when you use an artist crayon like the Neocolor II from Caran d’Ache, which is what I am using here. You can also get some gorgeous subtle pastel watercolor looks too. And as a bonus I have another technique to share to help you get a unique distressed look from using your watersoluble crayons on your gel plate. You can catch a close-up of some of the prints down at the bottom of this post, so just scroll down after watching the video!

VIDEO: Art Stash Haul - Printing Inks, Brushes PLUS Is This The Best White pen?

I hope you like art stash haul videos because this week I thought I would try one out. I’ve not done one before so let me know what you think! Join me as I unbox a recent art stash haul and walk you through the products I have bought and why I have bought them. It is also a little peek into what type of projects might be popping up on my channel in the next few months *wink* *wink*!

Most of the links, unless otherwise stated, are for Jackson’s Art, who ship worldwide (btw!).

Not because I am sponsored by Jackson’s Art (because I am not!) but because in a lot of the cases the products on Amazon UK/ US/ CAN where supplied by Jackson’s Art anyway and on Amazon they were more expensive so I thought I would direct you straight to Jackson’s Art themselves, rather than go through Amazon!

VIDEO: Nuvo Embellishment Mousse - Color Mixing And More ideas

Do you have any Nuvo Embellishment Mousse? I am a little late to the Nuvo Embellishment Mousse party, it’s a mica-pigment stencil paste that has been on the craft market for a while now and I thought it was time that I tested it out and shared the results. So if you, like me, are new to it or perhaps you have got some but are looking for new things to do with it then watch my video for my take on the product and I hope it gives you some ideas of how to try it out in your next project.

I would really love to hear, if you have some and what you like to use it for so please do let me know and if you want a close-up view of the texture from the last test that I did in the video then scroll down to the bottom of the post.

VIDEO: Color Combination – How To Use It To Inspire Your Art

VIDEO: How To Use A Color Combination To Inspire Your Art

I’ve started to notice that some of the projects I’ve been sharing with you this year have been very lead by color combination. So today I thought I would lean fully into it and show you a study that I did recently that was completely lead by the colors. In fact the art is not at all important in this piece it was more about mixing the colors and trying them out, plus finding the right materials to get the look that was in my head out onto paper.

So if you have a color combination stuck in your head at the moment let me know what it is, because I am always curious! And hopefully this video will give you some ideas and tips on how to test that color combo out ready for your next project!

Don’t forget that the products are all listed under the video if you are interested in what I used and the color names!

VIDEO: Art Journal – Easy Stenciling With A Kitchen Sponge

VIDEO: Art Journal - Easy Stenciling With A Kitchen Sponge

You guys know that I love a bit of easy stenciling don’t you? I mean give me a piece of paper and a pair of scissors and I’ll give you a stencil and mask to play with! It’s so lo-tech but I’ve gone even lower tech today because I have re-purposed a kitchen sponge – don’t worry it won’t be going back into the kitchen after I’ve been using it! – to make a fun and effective easy stenciling art journal page. I mean there really is no excuse for not having a go at this project!

I’ve gone for lots of texture so watch how I build it up and don’t forget to scroll down for the list of paints I’ve used and a close-up of that texture too. I’m looking forward to seeing all your kitchen sponge-stippled projects!

Oh and by the way, John Bloodworth, aka Gentleman Crafter has interviewed me for his Worldwide Wednesday series on his blog if you are interested in reading more about me! He also has a YouTube channel so do pop over and say hi to him and subscribe to his channel too!

VIDEO: Using Acrylic Paint Like Watercolor – Abstract Painting

Using Acrylic Paint Like Watercolor – Abstract Painting

I’m using acrylic paint like watercolor in today’s video show and tell, to make some lovely, bright and translucent paint layers. It’s a great technique and fun to do! I think that one of the things that I love about acrylic paint is that it is just so versatile. I mean you guys know that I adore watercolor paint, but I also love using acrylic paint like watercolor paint to get the strong bright colors that acrylic paint can give you.

So I’ve made an abstract page in one of my neatest art journals for this acrylic paint like watercolor share. And you can take a peek into what else is in this art journal too in the video! If you enjoy it then I also have links to more videos related to this one below and some more photos of the finished page too, so don’t forget to scroll down after you have watched the video.

How to gel print on card blanks Blog title

I’ve got my gel plate out again and I’m sharing a simple gel print technique for printing directly on card blanks so if you are looking for a gorgeous, professional looking printed card blank then try this! I am quite enjoying the weathered wallpaper look that I’ve been getting using a Damask-style stencil with my gel print but this techniques works for all sorts of looks so have a play.

I’ve used a heavy weight cardstock card blank for my gel print video today and I’ve listed what I’ve used in the supplies list below the video. But try out what you have in your stash and see how it works with the paint you want to use. And don’t forget to check the close-up photo of one of the cards at the bottom of this blog post.

VIDEO: Art Journal – Iridescent Acrylic Paint Leaves

Iridescent leaves painted with acrylic paint in a junk journal by Kim Dellow

More acrylic paint leaves for you today and a video of my latest Junk Journal experiments. For this video I’ve been playing around with painting acrylic paint leaves using those wonderful iridescent Pebeo paints that I am totally hooked on at the moment. But my acrylic paint leaves are different today as I’ve painted them as shapes rather than using the negative space technique that I used in my last video. I don’t know what I am in such a leafy mood, perhaps it was all of our chat about art motifs recently?!

If you want to see the leaves in their full shiny iridescent glory then scroll on down to the close up photograph at the bottom of the page!

It’s art journal time! I thought I would change pace today, well it is Sunday after all, and share an art journal page process video. This page started with some paint left over from another project that I wanted to use up, so I had no real plans for it. I’ve built it up with gouache and acrylic paint and also some monoprinting with one of the petite gel press shapes.

To see more I’ve a close up photograph under the supplies list!

VIDEO: How To Make Easy Abstract Watercolor Flowers – A Creative Exercise

How To Make Easy Abstract Watercolor Flowers - A Creative Exercise

I promised you something different today didn’t I? So I thought I would share a creative exercise that is great for anyone who wants to get started with watercolor paints, or for if you have been dabbling but aren’t sure what to do next. So this exercise uses three ways to make easy abstract watercolor flowers and helps you to get use to how watercolor paints work and how to manipulate them to get the look and effects you want. And I’m hoping that you find it a no-fear exercise that helps you to get a handle on watercolors and inspires you to have some fun experimenting with them, so let me know if it does!

I’ve put all the colors that I have used in the supplies section below. I’m using watercolors in pans from Prima Marketing but this exercise will work on other watercolors too, like liquid watercolors or tube paints, even some of your pens and inks too! If you want to see some close-up pictures of the textures you can find them below!
