VIDEO: Gel Press – Printing Techniques – How to Use a Gel Plate To Build Layers

Gel Press Printed hearts

I’ve got my Gel Press gel printing plate out so I thought it would be fun to share some of my top tips for building textured layers in your monoprints. I’ve got lots of techniques and ideas for you so I hope that you find them useful! I’ve also followed the heart theme from my Simple Mask and Heat embossing art journal that I shared on Wednesday, well it is February, and Valentine’s day is getting closer after all! But that is not the only thing I’ve used from that video as you will see!

These techniques will work on whatever you use for your monoprinting, Gel Press, Gelli Plate or even your DIY plates. So have fun trying them out and there is a close-up of some of the hearts below the video, in case you wanted to see some of the details.

Gel Press and other monoprinting plates (I’ve used the 5×7 Gel Press today)

Amsterdam Standard Acrylic Paint (Naples Yellow Red, Quinacridonerose Light)

Amsterdam Acrylic Paint nozzles

Pebeo Studio Acrylics Paint (irridescent, DNYA)

Printer paper for the masks and stencils (basic and light weight)

Paper to monoprint on Fabriano Accademia Paper is great for printing as it is cheaper but if you can’t find it then try other student art or drawing paper. You can also use the Strathmore Printmaking paper but it is more expensive.

Plastic canvas (embroidery/ stitch)

Brayers

Bubble wrap

I’ve been watching your videos using the gelli plate. I am so happy ! at last I understand the process and the limits of the gelli plate. I made all the heart cards that you have on videos, and have written the way to do them on each one so that I won’t forget.
    super useful techniques !
